Good morning, Scoopers!

Heading to the pool this summer? Take a quick look through the toy bin first.

The CPSC has recalled about 254,000 Sloosh dive sticks because of a possible impalement risk. Check your pool gear at cpsc.gov before the kids jump in.

🏫 Piece of Suffolk History Up for Auction

The News: Items from the old John F. Kennedy Middle School at 2325 E. Washington St. are being auctioned ahead of the building’s demolition. The auction is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. through Auction757.com.

Why It Matters: Desks, chairs, lockers, kitchen equipment, library shelving, projectors, doors, and more are up for grabs. Money raised will go back to Suffolk Public Schools’ general fund.

👉 The Move: If JFK Middle meant something to you, this may be your last chance to take home a piece of it before the old building is gone.

☀️ Suffolk City Council Takes Up Solar Project Tuesday

The News: Suffolk City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 16 at 2 p.m. about a conditional use permit from CEP Solar for a proposed solar energy facility. The site is between Old Myrtle Road and Old Mill Road, near the Suffolk and Isle of Wight County line.

Why It Matters: Solar projects can bring long-term tax revenue to the city, but they also affect land use and nearby neighbors. This is a chance for residents to hear details and speak up.

👉 The Move: Attend the meeting at City Council Chambers, 442 W. Washington St., or follow updates from the City of Suffolk. Your voice matters.

🚒 Suffolk Firefighters Contain Propane Leak

Photo Via: City of Suffolk's Department of Fire & Rescue

The News: Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded Friday afternoon to a leaking 1,000-gallon propane tank behind a distribution warehouse on Northgate Commerce Parkway. Crews evacuated the building, cooled the tank, and reseated the relief valve to stop the leak.

Why It Matters: Traffic was blocked for more than an hour, causing backups on Northgate Commerce Parkway, Shoulder Hill Road, and Nansemond Parkway. No injuries were reported.

👉 The Move: Big thanks to Suffolk Fire & Rescue for moving fast and keeping everyone safe. If you got stuck in traffic Friday, now you know why.
