Let’s get into it 👇

🌾 Suffolk Cotton Farmer Turns Fields Into Fashion

The News: The Bosselman family of Bosselman Farms has launched Old Myrtle Cotton Co., a T-shirt brand made from their own Suffolk-grown cotton. After starting the groundwork in 2023, they finished their first run of shirts in 2026, learning a few hard lessons along the way.

Why It Matters: Cotton prices have been sliding for years, forcing farmers to get creative. By turning their own harvest into a finished product, the Bosselmans can keep more value on the farm and help keep a Suffolk family operation moving forward.

👉 The Move: Look up Old Myrtle Cotton Co. and grab a shirt. Around here, “locally made” does not get much more literal than this.

🎓 Two Suffolk Schools Earn National Recognition

The News: Lakeland High School and Nansemond River High School have been named 2025-2026 Project Lead The Way Distinguished Schools, a national honor for strong career-connected learning programs.

Why It Matters: This is more than a plaque on the wall. Lakeland’s Biomedical Sciences program and Nansemond River’s Engineering program are helping Suffolk students build real-world skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.

👉 The Move: If you have a student at either school, take a closer look at these programs. Suffolk is building something worth bragging about.

🚒 Suffolk Honors Fire & Rescue Standouts

The News: Suffolk Fire & Rescue named its Firefighter, Officer, and Paramedic of the Year, all chosen by peers. Lieutenant Brian Moody earned Paramedic of the Year, Master Firefighter Jason Yost took Firefighter of the Year after 27 years of service, and Battalion Chief Kyle Hehl was named Officer of the Year.

Why It Matters: These aren't awards handed down from the top. They come from the people who show up to calls alongside these men every day.

👉 The Move: Suffolk Fire & Rescue is in good hands. Congratulations to all three.
