🔌 Suffolk Firefighters Sound Alarm on Power Strip Fires

The News: Overloaded power strips are being blamed for a rise in residential fires in Suffolk. Firefighters say plugging too many devices into one strip can quickly become dangerous.

Why It Matters: High-wattage appliances like microwaves, AC units, refrigerators, and space heaters should never be plugged into power strips. Daisy-chaining strips together can also create a serious fire risk.

👉 The Move: Do a quick walk-through of your home this weekend and check what’s plugged into your power strips. Plug high-power items directly into the wall, and call your local fire marshal’s office if you have questions.

🛹 Bennett’s Creek Skate Park Expansion Is Open

The News: The expanded skate park at Bennett’s Creek Park is finished, with new features and flatwork giving skaters more room to ride.

Why It Matters: The renovation adds more space for tricks, practice, and fun for skaters of all skill levels.

👉 The Move: Head over to Bennett’s Creek Park and see what’s new. Keep shredding, Suffolk! 🛹

Why It Matters: Residents can drop off tires, electronics, household hazardous waste, clothing, glass, cardboard, and more. A valid Suffolk ID is required for tire drop-off, and tires must be 22 inches or smaller with no rims.

👉 The Move: Clear out the garage and load up the car. For more details, visit suffolkva.us/recyclingdrive or call 757-514-7604.
