🎓 Lakeland Senior Earns Record $4 Million in Scholarships

The News: Lakeland High School senior Alexis Morrison has earned more than $4 million in scholarship offers, the highest total among Suffolk Public Schools seniors in the Class of 2026.

Why It Matters: Superintendent Dr. John B. Gordon III praised Alexis for her hard work, character, and dedication. Four million dollars in scholarship offers is a huge accomplishment and a proud moment for Lakeland and all of Suffolk.

👉 The Move: Congratulations, Alexis! Suffolk is cheering you on as you take your next big step. 🎉

🔥 Suffolk First Responders Run for Special Olympics Today

The News: The Suffolk Police Department, Suffolk Sheriff’s Office, and Suffolk Fire & Rescue are taking part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run today to support Special Olympics Virginia.

Why It Matters: Local first responders will carry the Special Olympics flame through Suffolk as part of a statewide relay. The run helps raise support and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

👉 The Move: Keep an eye out for Suffolk’s first responders today. A wave, cheer, or friendly honk is a simple way to show your support. 🚔🚒

🏠 Suffolk Approves New 55+ Neighborhood on Jonathans Way

Photo Via: City of Suffolk

The News: Suffolk City Council voted 7-1 to approve plans for a new 44-home neighborhood for residents age 55 and older. The community would be built on about 10 acres at 400 Jonathans Way.

Why It Matters: Suffolk’s older population is growing, and communities like this give seniors another housing choice with less upkeep. Councilman Tim Johnson voted against the plan, raising concerns about flooding, housing density, and the fact that the neighborhood would have only one entrance and exit.

👉 The Move: The project will now move into the planning stage before construction can begin. Developers also say they plan to protect an eagle’s nest on the property.
