The News: Second Lt. William H. “Wild Bill” Walker was educated in Suffolk’s East Suffolk Public Schools, trained as a Tuskegee Airman, and was assigned to the 332nd Fighter Group, the unit later known as the Red Tails. He died at age 24 in a mid-air training accident before seeing combat. Today, he rests at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk.
Why It Matters: More than 80 years later, people still seek out his gravesite. Walker’s story is part of Suffolk’s history and part of the larger legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.
👉 The Move: Visit Oak Lawn Cemetery at 440 Market St. and pay your respects to a hometown hero.
☀️ Suffolk Schools Move to Summer Hours

👉 The Move: Plan ahead if you need to visit or contact a school office. Schools and departments will also be closed June 18–19 for Juneteenth and July 2–3 for Independence Day.
