Good morning, Scoopers!

Here’s a little Suffolk kindness to start the day. Christian Home Baptist Church donated 100 pre-made hygiene kits to the Coalition Against Poverty in Suffolk to support its Night Shelter.

Those kits will help provide essential personal-care items to individuals and families who need them, but the gesture means more than that. It’s a reminder that people in our community are seen, valued, and cared for.

Big thanks to Christian Home Baptist Church for showing up for Suffolk. ❤️

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

⛽ RaceTrac Buys Port 460 Site for New Travel Plaza

The News: RaceTrac has purchased 6.05 acres at 2925 Pruden Boulevard for nearly $4.77 million for a new travel plaza at the entrance to Port 460 Logistics Center. Suffolk City Council approved the project 8-0 in February.

Why It Matters: Plans include a 6,100-square-foot RaceTrac Market, five tractor-trailer fueling lanes, eight automobile fueling islands with 16 pumps, and four underground tanks holding 80,000 gallons. With Port 460 bringing more truck traffic to Route 460, the location should serve both truckers and everyday drivers.

The site will not include a restaurant, showers, sleeping accommodations, truck repair, truck wash, or overnight truck parking.

👉 The Move: No opening date yet, but RaceTrac owns the land and already has city approval. Pruden Boulevard keeps growing.

🏈 Girls Flag Football Kicks Off in Suffolk

The News: Nansemond River, Lakeland, and King’s Fork will all field girls flag football teams this fall through a partnership with the Washington Commanders. The team provided uniforms and recently hosted a media day with Suffolk, Newport News, and Portsmouth schools. Suffolk’s first game is Saturday, September 26, at Nansemond River High School.

Why It Matters: Girls in Suffolk now have a new way to compete on the football field as the sport continues growing across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

👉 The Move: Come out Saturday and support Suffolk’s newest athletes. Let’s give these teams a strong hometown welcome!
