🥜🎉Suffolk Peanut Fest Is Back October 8-11
The News: The 48th Annual Suffolk Peanut Fest returns to Suffolk Executive Airport from October 8 through 11 with country headliner Chris Cagle, a brand-new drone show, a live butterfly walk-through exhibit, and more. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Generations, One Picture Perfect Memory at a Time!”
Why It Matters: This is Suffolk’s biggest annual event, and this year comes with some fun new additions. The custom drone show by Airloom Drone Shows will light up the night sky with synchronized aerial choreography, and the butterfly exhibit will let families walk among and feed live butterflies.

🏆 Lakeland High School Wins Two Statewide Sportsmanship Awards

The News: Lakeland High School has earned two major Virginia High School League honors: the Claudia Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity Award and the Stay in the Game Award.
Why It Matters: The Claudia Dodson Award recognizes schools that put sportsmanship, respect, and character first. The Stay in the Game Award is a big one too. Lakeland went the entire athletic year without a single player or coach being ejected.
👉 The Move: Congratulations to Lakeland’s student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, and fans. That is how you represent Suffolk with class. Well done, Cavaliers!
🏆 Nansemond River Track Teams Shine at VHSL State Championships!
The News: The Nansemond River High School Class 5 Girls Outdoor Track Team captured the VHSL Class 5 State Championship. The Boys Outdoor Track Team also brought home individual and relay state titles at the state championship meet.
Why It Matters: The girls won it all as a team, while the boys delivered big performances of their own in individual and relay events. That is a huge showing for Nansemond River on one of the biggest stages in Virginia high school athletics.
👉 The Move: Congratulations to the Warriors, their coaches, families, and everyone who cheered them on. Well done, Warriors!

Suffolk Parks & Recreation’s TGIF Summer Concert Series kicks off Friday, June 12 at Downtown Festival Park, 215 W. Washington St.
✅ Festivities start at 6 p.m.
✅ Live music runs from 6:30–9:30 p.m.
✅ Admission is free for all ages
✅ Food, concessions, and adult beverages for guests 21+ will be available for purchase
✅ Concerts will be held at Downtown Festival Park and Bennett’s Creek Park

🎉🏫Brand-New JFK Middle School Opens July 30

Suffolk Public Schools is inviting the community to the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new John F. Kennedy Middle School on Thursday, July 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Families can join school and city leaders for the celebration and take guided tours of the brand-new building. The old JFK Middle School was auctioned off earlier this summer ahead of demolition, so this new school marks a fresh chapter for students and the community.
Bring the family, walk the halls, and see the future of JFK Middle School up close.
