♻️ Suffolk Is Ending Curbside Recycling

The News: Starting July 1, Suffolk residents can put recycling straight into their regular trash bin. No more separating.

Why It Matters: A new AI system will sort recyclables out of the trash before the rest goes to the landfill. The goal is to reduce waste and help the regional landfill last longer.

👉 The Move: Batteries, paint, and hazardous waste still need to be disposed of properly. Residents who want to keep separating recycling can still drop items off at the transfer station.

❤️ Suffolk Man Loses Everything in House Fire

The News: Ravon Bagley lost his home on Osceola Avenue in Suffolk last Monday. He had just gotten home from his overnight job when he smelled smoke. He escaped out the back door with only the clothes he was wearing.

Why It Matters: The fire was ruled accidental and electrical. Ravon lost furniture, belongings, and photos of his older brother who passed away in 2022 — memories that can never be replaced.

👉 How You Can Help: His brother Antaion set up a GoFundMe on his behalf. Donate at gofundme.com

🔥 Off-Duty Suffolk Firefighter Steps Up

The News: Suffolk firefighter Joshua Baker was home on a break when a neighbor came to his door saying her house was on fire. He grabbed his gear from the garage and jumped into action before Chesapeake crews arrived.

Why It Matters: Baker used a garden hose and ladder to help hold the fire back until more help arrived. His family watched from next door as he climbed the ladder.

👉 The Recognition: News 3 named Baker an Everyday Hero, and Southern Bank presented him with $425. Baker said he appreciated the honor, but that anyone would have done the same.
