👮 Suffolk Police Warn Residents About Online Scams

Buying something on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist? Suffolk Police want to help you stay safe and avoid getting ripped off.
The News: Police are warning residents about purchase scams, where someone takes your money but never sends the item, or sells something broken or fake.
The Danger: Scammers often try to rush you or ask for payment through gift cards, Cash App, or Zelle, because that money is usually hard to recover.
The Safety Rule: Always meet in a public, well-lit place. Never go alone to a stranger’s home for a pickup.
👉 The Move: Use the Safe Exchange Zone at the Suffolk Police Department, located at 111 Henley Place. It’s a monitored spot made for safer online sales and meetups.
🦟 Mosquito Season Is Back in Suffolk

Mosquito season is waking up, and Suffolk is already on it.
The News: Suffolk Mosquito Control crews have started their seasonal work to stop mosquitoes before they spread across local yards and neighborhoods.
What They’re Doing: Crews are checking standing water like ditches, ponds, and other wet areas for mosquito larvae. They’re treating those spots early so the bugs never make it to the flying stage.
Why Now: Mosquitoes start getting active once temperatures stay above 50 degrees. With spring here, the city is trying to get ahead of the problem.
👉 The Move: Check your yard for anything holding water, like birdbaths, flowerpots, buckets, or old tires. Dumping it out once a week can help stop mosquitoes before they start buzzing.
💰Have a Say in Suffolk’s Budget

Ever wonder where your tax dollars are going? Here’s your chance to get answers without sitting through a long meeting.
The Event: On Tuesday, April 7, a city representative will be at the North Suffolk Library to talk with residents about Suffolk’s proposed budget.
What’s Inside: The proposed FY 2026–27 budget includes a 1 cent real estate tax rate cut, more funding for Suffolk Public Schools, and money tied to the new Downtown Library.
Why It Matters: This is an easy, low pressure way to ask questions about city spending, from roads and parks to schools and public safety.
👉 The Move: Stop by the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 to learn more.
