📚 Three Suffolk Library Staff Win State Awards

The News: Three Suffolk Public Library staff members earned 2026 Virginia Library Association awards. Diamond Chavis-Waller, Jeremy Hanes, and Emma Daugherty will be recognized Oct. 18 at the VLA Annual Conference Awards Reception in Norfolk.
Why It Matters: Their work is making a real impact in Suffolk:
✅ Diamond Chavis-Waller earned the Librarians of Color Forum Award for cultural programming celebrating Black history and identity.
✅ Jeremy Hanes earned the Outstanding Professional Associates Award after helping secure more than $375,000 in grant funding for the community.
✅ Emma Daugherty earned the Up and Comer Award for workforce development and reentry programs.
👉 The Move: Big congratulations to all three. Suffolk Public Library is doing a whole lot more than checking out books.
❤️ New Cardiac Scan at Harbour View Catches What Earlier Tests Missed

The News: Suffolk resident Marvin Williams knew something did not feel right, even though his first round of heart tests came back negative. His cardiologist, Dr. Dena Krishnan at Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Center, tried a new cardiac PET scan that gives doctors a detailed look at blood flow through the heart. It found a significant blockage in one of Williams’ bypass grafts, leading to the procedure he needed. Today, he says he feels wonderful.
Why It Matters: The cardiac PET scan can measure blood flow and help doctors find heart problems that other imaging may not detect. Krishnan said Williams likely could have eventually ended up in the emergency room if the problem had gone undetected. Heart attack symptoms also are not always sharp chest pain and can include pressure, heaviness, stomach discomfort, or simply feeling that something is wrong.
👉 The Move: If something does not feel right, talk to your doctor, especially if you have a history of heart disease. Know your numbers, know your risk, and do not wait.
