🏛️ What Suffolk City Council Is Taking Up Wednesday Night
The News: Suffolk City Council meets Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 442 W. Washington Street. The city has posted the regular meeting agenda and packet for the meeting.
Why It Matters: The agenda includes several items that could affect residents, including school repair funding, opioid abatement funds, trail and park projects, red light camera ordinance changes, the city’s 2027 legislative agenda, and the MLK Memorial at Peanut Park.
👉 The Move: The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Residents can attend in person or follow the city’s meeting coverage online.
🚔 All Clear at King’s Fork High School
The News: Suffolk Police responded to a threat at King’s Fork High School Monday morning. The campus was placed on hold while law enforcement searched the school and surrounding area. No threat was found, no injuries were reported, and the all clear was given.
Why It Matters: Multiple agencies responded as a precaution, helping make sure students and staff were safe before normal operations resumed.
👉 The Move: All clear, Bulldogs. Thanks to the agencies that responded quickly.
💙 50 Volunteers Give 200+ Hours to Suffolk Parks
The News: More than 50 volunteers from Sentara Obici, ABNB Federal Credit Union, Suffolk Police, and City Leadership gave more than 200 hours of service across four Suffolk parks during United Way’s Day of Caring.
Why It Matters: Volunteers cleaned, painted, built picnic tables, removed invasive plants, and helped with Suffolk’s Parks for Pollinators program.
👉 The Move: Big thanks to everyone who showed up and gave Suffolk’s parks some serious love.
