🎨 Festival + Road Closures This Saturday

The News: The Suffolk Earth & Arts Festival is happening this Saturday, and several downtown roads will be closed.
Why It Matters: Closures begin at 5 a.m. and include the 100–200 block of N Main Street, the 100 block of Bank Street, and the 100 block of Market Street. Vehicles left in the area may be towed.
👉 The Move: The festival runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with roads expected to reopen around 6 p.m. Plan ahead if you’re heading downtown.
📍 New Historic Marker Installed in Suffolk

The News: A new Lafayette Trail marker has been installed at Sleepy Hole Park as part of the America 250 celebration.
Why It Matters: The marker highlights Suffolk’s connection to the Revolutionary War and the path leading to the victory at Yorktown.
👉 The Move: You can check it out near the pier entrance at Sleepy Hole Park, which is open daily from dawn to dusk.
⭐ SPS Honors STAR Achievers

The News: Suffolk Public Schools has announced its 3rd Quarter STAR Achiever recipients, recognizing staff members nominated by their peers for making an exceptional impact in their school communities.
Why It Matters: It’s a nice reminder that so many of the people helping students every day are doing important work behind the scenes and in the classroom.

🛍️ Suffolk Community Yard Sale May 2

The Retreat at Harbour Cove is hosting a community yard sale on Saturday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Shoppers can expect items from multiple households, including clothing, tools, electronics, home décor, household items, and more. It all takes place at 1103 Elaina Place in Suffolk, with a rain date of May 3.
⚓ Living History Weekend in Suffolk

Step back to 1778 at a Living History Weekend coming to Suffolk.
📍 Riddick’s Folly Museum Grounds
🗓️ May 16–17 | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Expect costumed interpreters, a Revolutionary War Navy camp, live demos, and interactive experiences throughout the day.
👉 The Move: Free and open to the public. Easy one to lock in now for May.
