Good morning, Scoopers!
If you spot a little more orange around Suffolk this week, there’s a reason. The city is recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week, a reminder for all of us to slow down, stay alert, and give road crews the space they need to work safely. Suffolk is also encouraging everyone to wear orange on Go Orange Day this Wednesday.

🔥Burning Suspended Citywide

Photo Via: City of Suffolk's Department of Fire & Rescue
The News: Burning is suspended citywide in Suffolk until further notice. Suffolk Fire & Rescue posted the alert as warm temperatures, low humidity, and breezy southwest winds raised fire danger across the region.
Why It Matters: This is not just a precaution on paper. Suffolk crews have been dealing with multiple brush fires, including a two-alarm fire at Lummis Road and Copeland Road on April 16 and another fast-moving two-alarm fire near Indian Trail and Deer Path Road that threatened structures.
👉 The Move: Skip outdoor burning for now and keep an eye on city updates before doing anything that could throw sparks. Virginia’s spring fire season rules are also in effect through April 30.
🚌 Ride Free for Earth Day

The News: Suffolk Transit and Hampton Roads Transit will offer free rides on Wednesday, April 22 for Earth Day. The fare-free day includes bus, light rail, ferry, paratransit, and OnDemand Rideshare services.
Why It Matters: It gives riders a simple way to save a little money and skip the car for the day.
👉 The Move: If you’ve been meaning to try transit, Wednesday is a good test run. Check routes and schedules ahead of time.
🏢 MSI Opens New Suffolk Showroom

Photo Via: Visit Suffolk VA
The News: MSI has opened a new showroom and distribution center in Suffolk at 120 Westport Parkway, with a grand opening event set for Tuesday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Why It Matters: Trade coverage says the Suffolk site is a 550,000-square-foot facility meant to improve service and inventory access across a large regional footprint.
👉 The Move: This is more of a business-growth brief than a breaking-news item, but it’s another sign Suffolk keeps attracting major commercial investmen
